FAQ Friday: Life Changes

On Friday, March 14th, Attorney, Paula Mattson-Sarli discusses making changes to your documents in the event of a life change.

Life events of life changes are to mean births, deaths or divorces.

If there is a divorce and it is ordered that one person gets to keep the house, then following that order means changing the deed and transferring ownership to the other. However, if this isn’t complete and one passes away, this causes quite the issue.

If you have a blended family or have a blended family and get divorced, if you don’t have your Will updated, then it is possible that children aren’t cared for depending on who passes first.

Beneficiary designations always override a Will, but all should be updated in life changes regardless.
